What we collect, why, and what happens to it. Written to describe the system as it actually behaves rather than as a template.

Awaiting legal review

This page describes how the service actually works today. It has not been reviewed by a lawyer. Nothing here should be treated as final until it has been.

Who we are

Cruise Mystery Files is an independent entertainment product. We are not affiliated with, sponsored by, endorsed by, or produced by any cruise line.

What we collect, and when

We collect nothing until you send us something. Browsing the site creates no account and sets no tracking cookie.

When you ask about a sailing, join a priority list, or place a Founder Reservation, we store the name and email address you give us, and whichever of these apply: the shipping country, party size, the age band of your youngest investigator, the sailing you chose, and the case recommended for it.

We also store a snapshot of what you were shown at that moment — the ship, departure date and price — so that a later change on our side cannot alter the record of what you agreed to.

If you arrived through a campaign link, the campaign parameters in that link are stored with the submission so we know which one brought you.

Marketing is separate, and never assumed

Asking us a question is permission to answer it. It is not permission to market to you. Marketing email requires a separate tick box, and its absence is recorded as a refusal rather than left blank.

Payments

Deposits are taken by Stripe on a page hosted by Stripe. We never see, handle or store your card number, expiry or security code. What we keep is the amount, the currency, whether it succeeded, and Stripe's own reference for the transaction so that a refund can be matched to it.

Logs

Our content delivery network writes an access log for each request, containing the IP address, the page requested, the time, and the browser's user-agent string. Those logs are deleted automatically after 90 days.

There is no third-party analytics on this site. No advertising pixel, no session recorder, no cross-site tracker.

How long we keep things

Submissions and their payment records are kept for as long as we may need them to fulfil an order, process a refund, or meet a tax or accounting obligation. Access logs go after 90 days. If you ask us to delete a submission and we have no outstanding obligation attached to it, we will.

Your rights

You can ask us what we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, ask for it to be deleted, or ask for a copy. Write to us and we will respond. Depending on where you live you may also have the right to complain to a data protection regulator.
